A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE GIRLS ROCK! MOVEMENT

The first Girls Rock Camp, Rock 'n' Roll Camp 4 Girls, took place in Portland, Oregon, in 2001. Since then over 50 camps have been started worldwide with camps in Canada, Sweden, France, Germany, Iceland, Brazil and Peru. GR!WA is aligned with the Girls Rock Camp Alliance, a worldwide support network of camp organisers, and will follow their core values:

1. The power of music as a means to create personal and social change;

2. The efforts that actively expand opportunities for girls and women;

3. Positive approaches to fighting sexism;

4. Integrity, honesty and respect;

5. Appropriate sharing of resources, cooperation, and collaboration;

6. Using our collective voice to further our mission;

7. Diversity

Girls Rock! is now underway in many cities across Australia including Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide, and Perth!
